NEW LIFE PROGRAM CALL: EUROPEAN AID FOR INNOVATION IN THE AREA OF SUSTAINABILITY

The LIFE Program is the only financial instrument of the European Union dedicated exclusively to the environment. Its general objective for the period 2004-2020 is to contribute to sustainable development and the achievement of the objectives and goals of the Europe 2020 Strategy and the relevant strategies and plans of the Union in the field of environment and climate:

The 2018 call comes with news:

  • Disappearance of national allocations
  • For traditional projects of the Environment subprogram, the submission procedure is modified. Two-stage procedure, a first phase with a light proposal (concept note) and according to evaluation, the full report will be invited. (Concept note until 06/12/2018)
  • For the Climate Action sub-program, the procedure has not been modified.

Regulation (EU) No. 1293/2013 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 December 2013 and the LIFE Multi-Year Work Program 2018-2020 describe in detail the priority areas of the subprograms and the evaluation criteria.

The European Commission is especially interested in projects that:

  • Produce measurable effects on the environment or climate change in all priority areas.
  • Be close to the market, ready to obtain investment, economically and environmentally viable and mobilize additional private and public financial resources to develop on a larger scale and reproduce their results.

Terms:

  • Subsidy up to 55% of eligible costs, with some exceptions.
  • Applicants: public bodies, private commercial organizations, private non-commercial organizations, including NGOs.
  • There is no minimum or maximum number of participants.
  • There is no maximum or minimum budget, although the usual projects are € 0.5-1.5 M.
